Terminologies
some terms I keep using in the way explained here
What is an Emotion?
An emotion is an energetic atmosphere, a specific energy frequency that is tapped into by an individual and can be felt as a state of being. The different energy frequencies felt as an emotion are termed differently such as curiosity, victory, fear, hope etc. depending on the experience.
I feel ______.
To simply put, if you can fill the blank in the sentence above with any word/words to describe your non-physical state of being, how you are feeling, that’s an emotion.
For eg. you see a team work together in sync, the teammates covering each other’s blind spots to deliver superbly and you say, ”I can feel (their) camaraderie.”, then camaraderie here becomes an emotion.
Characteristics of Emotions:
Emotions can be inspired
Emotions can be infectious
Emotions have a degree of intensity
Emotions can be transferred
Emotions can transcend space, time and context
Emotions are tapped in for a period of time
More than one form of an emotion can be felt at the same time
What is an Emotional Space?
It is the energetic atmosphere that an Identity holds and its characteristics are defined by the emotional values it carries. Hence it is the source from which various types of emotions characteristic to an identity exude.
An Identity’s Emotional Space has two components:
Core Emotional Space: It consists of emotional values that remain consistently present throughout different connections of an identity, creating a sense of continuity in the way the Identity is experienced and connected with across contexts.
Want to know a little about your Core Emotional Space? I have created a fun introspective exercise: Value of Presence from Connection
Dynamic Emotional Space: It keeps shape shifting contextually as different emotional values become active and inactive according to different connections of an identity depending on the situation, interaction, environment or type of connection being formed at a given moment.
What is an Identity?
Anyone and anything capable of holding an emotional space is an identity. When you interact with an Identity, you tap into certain emotions carried by its emotional space. In fact, the resonant emotional values of its emotional space is what invites connection. An identity can be an individual, a concept, idea, product, service, culture or brand.
What are Emotional Values (Ev)?
Emotional values are simply the emotions that give an Identity its emotional character via its emotional space. As per their presence in either core emotional space or dynamic emotional space, they can be categorised as either Core Emotional Values or Dynamic Emotional Values respectively.
What are Greater and Lesser Emotions?
If the energetic frequencies that make an emotion could be quantified, then greater emotions would be the ones higher on the scale and lesser emotions lower. However without the scale the way to recognise whether an emotion is a greater or lesser one is through feeling it. Greater emotions (eg. happiness, contentment, excitement) are the ones that increase an identity’s frequency while lesser emotions (eg. fear, insecurity, greed) do the opposite.
